ART? WHETHER YOU WANT TO BELIEVE IT OR NOT
Here's a remarkable story about "My Bed" by artist Tracey Emin. It is a shocking, perverse and actually really gross work of art. Enim wants to show with 'My Bed' that an adult's bed is never innocent. According to her, the bed is the very most intimate piece of furniture, one that makes your imagination run wild. The artwork is a "statement" of her relationship breakup in 1998.
SOLD FOR 3.1 MILLION EUROS
You may believe it or not, but 'My Bed' was auctioned for 3.1 million euros at Christie's in 2014. Tracey herself was initially unhappy about the sale of 'My Bed,' preferring to see the work in a museum. The new owner, unknown until recently, appears to be German industrialist Count Christian Dürckheim-Ketelhodt.
He has now agreed with the Tate group of museums to give the controversial work of an unmade bed on long-term loan to Tate Britain. The bed will be on display here from April 2015. So with this, Tracy's wish has been fulfilled.
WHAT MAKES A BED SO CONTROVERSIAL?
It is a filthy, unmade bed with stained sheets. It is safe to say that 'My Bed' is the most famous bed in contemporary art. 'My Bed' is a monument to her breakup in 1998, after which the artist stayed in bed in misery for four days.
It was her own bed, soaked in bodily fluids, littered with bloodstains, used condoms, dirty underpants and half-empty bottles of alcohol.
